So it’s February 1st, I’m in Houston, and its going to be 70 degrees today. I’m from the northeast and have family and friends recovering from the craziness of multiple inches of snow, ice and or flooding.
Lets talk about Farmers Markets and Community Gardening. Those small farms and smaller than city block plots of land that give bounty to many that otherwise would not have anything remotely close to well balanced meals. According to the Farmer’s Almanac during February in Houston, root vegetables and some leafy vegetables; spinach, cabbage, kale, can be planted via seed. In Connecticut, it’s harvest season for brussel sprouts, kale, leeks, parsnips, and swiss chard. There are small family farmers and community gardeners near and far that were passionate about fresh healthy fruits and vegetables and leveraged that Passion into a Super Power so that for some canned fruits and vegetables are no longer the accepted norm.
